Case study: inject reaction abscess

Abstract

Short history: 

? Vaccine or injection reaction abscess developed over 5 days post vaccine, vaccine given 1 week ago.

Management to date:

Sedate to flush wound normal saline 1000ml at a time daily. Instilled 1 tube activon manuka honey mixed with 20ml saline.Clipped all hair, necrotic tissue and slough coming away, left open to drain.

Specialist advice 1st presentation: 

Likely with a little undermining it will close primarily. See how the suture line is though when the leg is moved to check it isn’t too tight. If it is just a little tight, place some 2-0 vertical mattress sutures across that part of the wound. If much too tight an advancement flap from caudally on the trunk where there will be plenty of skin could be done.
